- The program is nothing fancy. Just a number guessing program
- for numbers 1 through 500. Might be a little trouble for younger
- children. I have had no feedback about people wanting a program
- with smaller number ranges. Even people wanting an option for the
- size of the number range. So it remains the same as the original
- program I wrote from my old Radio Shack Color Computer with 16k
- of RAM.
-
- (1) Game is pretty straight forward, first you enter your
- name and press <ENTER>. If you do not enter your name, the
- program picks a name for you out of thirty one male and female
- names including "Hey You." This is to add a little variety to
- the game. Your name can be anything, numbers, letters or any
- combination. To edit your name press the <BACKSPACE>, when
- finished, press <ENTER>.
-
- (2) The object of the game is to guess the random number the
- program has chosen between 1 and 500. On screen is a color range
- showing you how close each guess is. The border starts out green
- then changes to the color of the guess range and a LOW or a
- HIGH. Mono display uses symbols where color used. The program
- also plays a musical rendition that matches the guess range
- up/down. There is no limit to the number of guesses you can make.
- The count is displayed after your have correctly guessed the
- number.
-
- (3) You advance to the Options Menu after a correct guess or
- you press <ESC> from the play screen. To edit an entry press the
- <BACKSPACE>. Press <ENTER> when you have completed your entry.
-
- Just type in Guess and press <ENTER>. After the program
- credits the screen displays:
-
-
- <1>=Another Game <5>=View Top Ten
-
- <2>=Another User <6>=Erase Top Ten
-
- <3>=Help/Information <7>=Exit Program
-
- <4>=Turn Sound ON/OFF
-
- Press Choice <1-7>
-
-
-
- <1>=Another Game
-
- Press '1' or <ENTER> from the Options Menu. If you have not
- entered a user name you proceed through option <2>. After
- entering a name the screen displays the playing screen:
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Guess A Number
-
- Type in a Num. (1-500) and press <ENTER>, or press <ESC> to Exit
-
- [_ ]
-
-
- On your first turn there is a green border around the
- screen. This border changes colors or characters (mono) to match
- your guess range. In the lower part of the screen is a display of
- your guess ranges in either color or characters (mono).
-
- If you have the sound turned on the tones go up-scale when
- guess was above number or down scale when your guess is below
- then number. Tones and colors or characters are to help younger
- players zero in on the random number the program has picked for
- the current play.
-
- Pressing <ESC> returns you to the Options Menu. When you
- match the number you are returned to the Options Menu but you are
- also shown the correct number and the number of guesses that it
- took you to find it.
-
-
- <2> Another User
-
- From the Options Menu press '2'. The screen displays:
-
-
- Please type in your name and press <ENTER>
-
- [_ ]
-
- Press <ESC> To Abort
-
-
- Name length is 16 characters and can be anything, numbers,
- letters or any combination. To erase the input press the
- <BACKSPACE>. Pressing <ENTER> begins a new game.
-
- If you do not enter a name the program picks a name for you
- out of thirty male and female names, and 'Hey You'. This is to
- add a some variety to the game. I often use this just to see the
- display and the name the program give me. Should be great for
- younger players.
-
-
- <3> Information/Help
-
- From the Options Menu press '3'. The screen displays the on-
- line help and information screens.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- <4> Turn Sound ON/OFF
-
- From the Options Menu press '4'. If the sound is OFF it is
- turned ON, if it is ON it is turned OFF. Default for the program
- is OFF. You must turn it ON or OFF from the Options Menu. This
- are key clicks, warnings, etc.
-
- Sound can also be turned off from the play screen by
- pressing <S>. Turning the sound ON or OFF does not constitute a
- turn.
-
- There are program delays in place of the sounds if you have
- sound OFF. This is to keep the play constant regardless of the
- state of the sound.
-
-
- <5> View Top Ten
-
- From the Options Menu press '5'. The screen displays:

- Press <ANY KEY) for Options Menu
-
-
- The Top Ten scores are displayed on the screen in ascending
- order with the non-entry zero scores displayed at the bottom.
- This might look strange but it looks better to me than having the
- non-entry zero scores about user scores.
-
- If you have just completed a game and your score makes it
- into the Top Ten it will be blinking in it's correct position on
- the screen along with your score, current date and time. On all
- other displays the names do not blink. Pressing any key returns
- you to the Options Menu.
-
-
- <6> Erase Top Ten
-
- From the Options Menu press '6'. The screen displays:

-
- Pressing 'Y' erases the scores in the Top Ten score file and
- rewrites the default file with "Open" for names, '0' for scores
- and the current date and time. Pressing any other key returns you
- to the Options Menu.
-
- When the scores get too high for all ten positions just
- erase the Top Ten scores and start over again.

- after display of exit credits.
